Frequently Asked Questions

What is different about your approach from most traditional therapy?

The field of somatic psychotherapy (i.e. body-oriented psychotherapy) is continually demonstrating its effectiveness based on research in the field of neurobiology and attachment theory. (See the Resource page for more information.) Our work together can help you move out of the "head" and into your experiences in meaningful ways. Sometimes the "I" we see ourselves as lies focused in the mind; we live from "the neck up." When we include awareness of the body (along with our mind and emotions), we understand that our bodies have come along with us throughout all of our life's experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant. Often clients notice that this approach brings new awareness, relief, and lasting insights into long held problems, current stress, and physical discomfort.

What are your fees? Can I use insurance?

My fee per session is $120 for 55 minutes. For those who prefer longer sessions my fee is $150 for 75 minutes. If requested, I can offer an initial consultation over the phone or in person without charge to explore our "fit" and potential to meet your needs. If I know of a colleague who may better suit your needs I can offer referrals.

I work as an out of network provider and though I am not currently on insurance panels, I can provide you with monthly insurance statements that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You may want to check with your insurance to see if your plan will cover individual psychotherapy with a licensed clinical social worker. PPO and POS plans will often reimburse for therapy services.

For UCSC students, I can bill insurance on your behalf. Please contact me with any questions regarding insurance.

What about length of sessions? What happens between sessions?

My sessions are 55 minutes in length. Additional time for a session can be requested by the client. Important work is also done between our sessions as you integrate what you have learned.
